## Good to know

Many revolution counters are used to measure the length of materials such as paper, textile, wires, ropes and continuous rolls of metals. For this purpose, they are attached to wheels with known circumference.

For example when attached to a wheel with circumference of one foot, then then every 3 turns is one yard. That is why it is beneficial for revolution counters to count on 1:3 ratio. In this way the wheels will not be too large or too small.

Most of these revolution counters are also available with one or two measuring wheels. The circumferences of such wheels are usually 1/3 meter if you need to measure in metric system.
